WASHINGTON!We took only a small bite out of southeastern Washington, but this part of the state was new to me, having only been to Seattle. We rode through stunning striped canyons, but I could hardly enjoy them due to feeling disoriented from the extreme heat. We spent the night at a well-watered Army Corps of Engineers park on the Snake river, in the blessed shade, watching Canada geese and their fuzzy long necked offspring float on the river. The next day we had a long fast downhill that felt like an endless roller coaster ride, so fun that I almost wanted to go back and do it again! We coasted past green wheat fields that swelled and rippled like ocean waves in the wind. It was here that our trip took an unexpected turn: we met a man from Idaho who, when he heard that our nearest campsite was 10 miles away, it was nearly dark, and we were headed his way, scooped us up in his pickup truck, bikes, trailer and all, and spirited us off to his campsite up in the hills overlooking Grangeville Idaho. Hang in there, lots more Washington soon! |
Howdy folks!Contact Us!Washington towns we passed through: Port Kelley Wallula Junction Wallula Attalia Burbank Burbank Heights Lamar Harsha Prescott From here we headed into Idaho, hopping an unexpected short ride out of the heat of the Washington desert and to the cool forests of the Rocky Mountain foothills!
